Obituary

Mineral Point - Victor William Pulford, age 100, of Mineral Point, WI died of natural causes, without suffering, at the Mineral Point Care Center on Sept. 16, 2014.

He was born to the late Duncan and Mary Pulford, May 19, 1914 in New Jersey. His family moved to Michigan shortly thereafter, where Victor attended Garden City's Fordson H.S. and Wayne State University in Detroit. He married the late Lillian Marie Pulford in 1942 and they lived happily together for 44 years.

Victor's life of 100 years was one of active involvement in the great history that period produced. He saw the advent of automobile use, telephones, televisions and the Internet age. He witnessed Prohibition while working in his father's secret speakeasy frequented by Chicago and Detroit gangsters of the day. He lived through the Great Depression, knew billionaire Henry Ford, and joyfully worked for $1 a day in Henry's garden and a Ford assembly plant.

He served the Army Air Corps, in the China Burma India Theater, under the Flying Tigers squadron of General Claire Chenault. And after 44 years of work for Ford Motor, and advancement to a lead automotive engineer, he enjoyed another 42 years of a company retirement package not offered before or since.

He was an excellent artist, partially supporting his early education with this work. He used his artistry to beautifully capture daily scenes while stationed in China during WWII, and then to paint images of the desert southwest he lived in for many years. Victor was also an excellent ballroom dancer and an avid golfer for most of his adult life.

Victor outlived his 7 younger siblings. He is survived by one son, Curtis (Susan), recently of Phoenix Arizona and formerly of Mineral Point, and grandchildren Alisa and Olga Pulford.

There will be no services, cards may be sent to the Gorgen Funeral Home, 310 Ridge St., Mineral Point, WI 53565.
