Waunakee - Shirley Mae Hoerter, age 89, of Waunakee passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at UW Hospital in Madison.

She was born on March 22, 1936 and was the daughter of Otto and Marion (Mattoon) Hoerter. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1954. Before retiring, she worked several different jobs in Sales as a switch board operator in her early years, and did some small modeling jobs. Shirley always had her dog companions over the years, and currently her loved rescue dog, Lucky, was her whole world. She enjoyed playing bingo, solitaire, word search puzzles, reading books and most of all, walking numerous times each day with Lucky.

She is survived by her sister Patricia Thelen and her best furry friend, Lucky.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law Donald Thelen, and her nephew Michael.

As per Shirley's wishes, no formal services will be held and a private burial will take place at a later date at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, WI.
