Obituary

Mineral Point – Russell F. Krase, age 78, of Mineral Point, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017.

He was born April 22, 1939 in Chicago, IL to Fred and Grace Krase. He attended Fenton Community High School in Bensenville, IL where he met the love of his life, Gayle (Smeja). He graduated in 1957 before attending Elmhurst College where he earned his Bachelor of Science and obtained his teaching certificate in June 1961. He then went on to receive his Master of Science degree in mathematics from Northern Illinois University in 1967.

Russ taught at Naperville Central High School from 1964 – 1978; during that time, he also worked part-time at Illinois Benedictine College from 1966 – 1977. In 1978, he and his family moved to Buena Vista, CO, where Russ and his wife owned and operated Krase's Korner, a gas station/liquor/convenient store from 1978-1981. In 1981, he returned to teaching at Buena Vista High School. Russ then moved to Canyon City, CO where he taught at Saint Scholastica Academy for approximately ten years. After retiring from teaching, Russ relocated to Mineral Point to be closer to his family.

Russ loved hunting, fishing, boating, camping, golfing, reading, and listening to classical music.

Russ is survived by his sister, Donna Johnson-Krase of North Canton, OH; his brother, Richard Krase of The Villages, FL; his son, David Krase (Robert Eversman) of Monroe, WI; his daughter, Kathleen Krase of Mineral Point; his granddaughters, Sarah (Matthew) Drennan and Jessica Thompson of Dodgeville, WI; his great-grandsons, Nolan and Caleb; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and younger brother, Mark Krase.

He was a kind and gentle soul and will be dearly missed by everyone.
