Obituary

Linden – Ruby Ilene (Brown) Griffiths, affectionately known as “Rube”, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the age of 93. Ruby was born on December 2, 1932, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Alice (Brown) Rowe. She was raised by her grandparents, Richard and Mary Ellen (Fine) Brown. She grew up in Linden and started school at a young age and graduated at the age of 16 from the Linden High School Class of 1949.

Ruby married Robert (Bob) Griffiths on April 14, 1950, at Pocahontas, Arkansas. They lived in Linden raising their four children, Stan, Linda, Steve and Todd. Ruby worked long hard hours doing factory work for 10 years at Burgess Battery and 37 years at Carnes Corporation, retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers' National Union and was a member of the Linden American Legion Auxiliary.

Upon retiring she enjoyed a dream come true trip to Cornwall where her grandpa Richard Brown was born. Ruby liked to travel with family and friends going to New York to the Statute of Liberty and Ellis Island where her ancestors came from Liskeard, England, along with trips through parts of the United States including Canada.

Ruby was a people person enjoying many friends and family through-out her lifetime, young or old. She was an avid reader, and you could always find a book next to her or doing crossword puzzles, word search or playing a game of solitaire. Ruby had many, many books and always subscribed to all the area newspapers and read the Wisconsin State Journal daily. She collected cookbooks, especially church cookbooks, she always said they had the best recipes. Shoes and purses were a hot item in her closet, saying often she had over 100 pairs of shoes. She was very happy when one of her great-great grandchildren, Ruby was named after her.

Ruby lived in her present home for 60 years on Main Street in Linden, living alone for 92 years. Her greatest joy was sitting on her front porch and talking with people.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Linda Nichols; her sons, Steve Griffiths and Todd (Lori) Griffiths; her daughter-in-law, Sue Griffiths; her grandchildren, Carolyn (Kevin) Butteris, Tom (Angie) Lindholm, Tim (Amy Bossert), Paula Griffiths, Angie Rae Griffiths (Ben Barrett), Jessica (Paul) Gothard, Haley (Jeff) Speth and Heather (Wes) Ingersoll; her brother, Francis (Joyce) Rowe and her sister, Mary Alice Muller; 24 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren and a baby coming in January 2027.

She was preceded in death by her, Grandparents, Richard and Mary Ellen Brown, husband, Bob, mother, Alice Rowe, son, Stan Griffiths, grandson, Eric Griffiths, daughter-in-law, Debbie Griffiths, son-in-law, Charlie Nichols, three brothers, Gary, Martin (Buzz) and Ronald Rowe.

Ruby lived a good life of 93 years, working hard and enjoying a cold beer with family and friends. She will be remembered as a Spunky, Sassy, Feisty and Sweet “Lady”!
