Mineral Point - Robert J. (Bob) Regan, 91, of Mineral Point, died peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the Upland Hills Hospital in Dodgeville, surrounded by his loving family. His greatest joys were his family, helping others and his Catholic faith.
Bob was born on September 24, 1925. He was the third son and fourth child of nine children born to James and Alice (DeMuth) Regan who were dairy farmers in Mineral Point. He graduated from Mineral Point High School with the class of 1943. When he turned 18, he enlisted in the US Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific aboard an LST (USS 1142). When the war ended, his ship was sent up into China to help transport Japanese POWs back to Japan. He was discharged in 1946, returned to Mineral Point and perused the occupation of dairy farming. He married Patricia Schaaf on July 15, 1950. Together they raised nine children - seven daughters and two sons. He retired from farming in 1989. Patricia died in 1993. In 1994, Bob married Helen Lawinger and moved off the farm into town. He enjoyed many years in retirement attending many important events with his family and that of Helen's extended family.
Bob always had a positive disposition and never met a person he did not like. He was very active in the community serving for almost two decades on the Iowa County Board. He was Chairman in 1982. He served on the Iowa County Fair Board, Bloomfield Manor Board of Directors, Hodan Center Board of Directors and was a Past Commander and, for almost 50 years, the Chaplain of the American Legion Post 170.
He is survived by his wife Helen, and all nine of his children: Mary-Long (Scott) Shadel, Larry (Margaret) Regan, Marlene (Mike) Osmanski, Kathy (Tom) Horton, Vickie (Bob) Bilda, Chris (Dale) Stephenson, Michelle (Brett) Schmitz, Danny (Marla) Regan, and Julie (Bob) Oberhauser. Grandchildren Katye(Randy), Jenny (Mike), Eddy, Kelsey, Cara, Mitch (Maria), Madie, Kaitlin (Aaron), Scott(Samantha), Delaney (Jimmy), Lesley(Allen), Carter (Ashley), Jaclyn (Alex), Lee, Bobby (Tara), Danielle (Erika), Daryll, Halie, Olivia, Patrick, Grant, Tess, Chloe, Great Grandchildren Tommy, Danny, Ryan, Mayson, Bela-Lew, Carson, Dane, Wade, Max, Lily, and Brynn.
Step Children Renee (Chuck) Dahl, Jan (Dean) Manteufel, Bob (Ann) Lawinger. Step Grandchildren Tori (Andy), Mary (Rick), Ryan (fiancé Brenda), Alyssa, Erinn, Dayne, and Brody, Step Great Grandchildren Charli, Isaac, Lane and Lucas.
Siblings Lucille May and Gerry (Lutie) Regan, Sister-in-law Mary Ann Regan, and Brother-in-Law Ralph (Jean) Schaaf along with many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by first wife Patty, his parents, and also siblings Eileen (Leslie) Hungerford, Harry (Helen) Regan, Francis Regan, Josephine(Carl) Richland, Bill(Jean) Regan and Sr. Kathleen, son in law Dan Long, and grandsons Nathan and Anthony Stephenson, and great grandchild Noelle Macaulay..
A Mass and Christian Burial will be held at Ss. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mineral Point on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00 am, with Father Jim Lesser presiding. Burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery. Visitation will be at Ss. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 2, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Hodan Center, Mineral Point Library or the Iowa County Fair.
