Dodgeville - Robert J. Miess, age 88, of Dodgeville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family, following a seventeen month battle with cancer.
Bob was born March 16, 1927, to Adam and Stella (Heibel) Miess and raised on the family farm. He served in the Marine Corp. from 1952 – 1954 and was very proud to be called a Marine. Upon returning from service he married Betty (Miller) on June 12, 1954 and together they farmed until his retirement a few years ago. Together they raised six children. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Dodgeville and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Highland American Legion and a lifetime member of the National Farmers Organization. Robert enjoyed Canada fishing trips, hunting, gardening and especially time spent with his children and fourteen grandchildren. He and Betty loved to attend all sports and school activities of their grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty of 61 years; his five children, Dan (Lynette), Susan (David), Lynn (Dan) Meuer, Ellen (Mike) Michek, Sara (Todd) Hogan; his daughter-in-law Laurie; his brother Glen (Trudy); his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jean Miess, Cleo Miess James, Eileen Craig, Marianne Miller and Mary Ann Doyle; his 14 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his son Tony, his sister Maggie Rochon, his brothers Paul and Gene Miess and his brother-in-law Andy Rochon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Monsignor Daniel Ganshert will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Highland American Legion. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville.
