Mineral Point – Rita Agnes Kieffer, age 90, of Mineral Point, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville.

She was born on January 6, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Catherine (Schmit) Kieffer. She was the youngest of four children. Her siblings were Edward, Mary Schmieder, Father Lawrence Kieffer.

In her early years she attended school in Mineral Point and later graduated high school in Dubuque, Iowa. She spent all of her years working in the health field including many years as an x-ray technician. After working in Wisconsin for several years, she went south to work in Oklahoma City and Houston, Texas where she attended the University of Houston. She really enjoyed working on the research side of the health field. She loved adventure and travel which included residency in Arizona and also Southern California.

Rita returned to Wisconsin in the late 70's and embraced living on her acreage in rural Mineral Point near the family homestead. She enjoyed time spent with her friends and acquaintances in Mineral Point and truly enjoyed her time spent at the Mineral Point Public Library. She believed in the value of sitting down to a good book and the value of continuous education. She could also be found enjoying a social hour in and around the Mineral Point area. Rita was a unique person and once you met her, you never forgot her.

Rita is survived by nieces and nephews of the Edward Kieffer and Mary Schmieder families; along with great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews and two great-great-great nieces. She is further survived by cousins from the Kieffer and Schmit families; along with many friends.

Rita was predeceased by her father, her mother, her brothers Edward and Lawrence, her sister Mary, her sister-in-law Melanie and many extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point. Fr. David Flanagan will officiate. Inurnment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME.

The family wishes to thank Bloomfield Manor, Upland Hills Health, and the Mineral Point Rescue Squad for always being there for Rita in her time of need. And also many thanks to all her friends who helped her out over the years.
