Mineral Point - Richard Vaverek, age 81, passed away peacefully at the Agrace Hospice Center in Madison Wisconsin on Saturday, July 8, 2017.

Richard was born on August 9, 1935, a son of Alfred and Martha (Wrobleski) Vaverek. He served 2 tours of duty overseas as an Army medic. He was an avid reader with a love for collecting coins.

Richard was a resident of Mineral Point since his retirement from the Chicago branch of the United States Postal Service where he served as a mail carrier for many years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lucas, grandson, Taylor Pickett, father, Alfred Vaverek, mother, Martha Vaverek (nee Wrobleski), brothers Alfred Adam Vaverek, Donald Vaverek, and sister Adeline Vaverek.

He is survived by his daughter Susan Pickett, his grandson Sean Pickett, his sisters Lorraine Brice (Robert), Jeanette Nowicki (Michael); his brother Larry Vaverek; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH in Mineral Point. Rev. Cal Schaver will officiate. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church. Everyone is invited to join the family for a luncheon at the church after the interment at the cemetery.
