Obituary

Rogers, MN - Richard Frank Bawden, born in June of 1914 passed away at the age of 101 on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He was born on a 320 acre farm in southwestern Wisconsin to two teachers and was the next to youngest of 6 children. He graduated from Arena High School in 1931, worked for two years on the farm and then entered the University of Wisconsin in 1933. He received his B.S. in Education, and then worked at the Barley and Malt Lab at Madison while doing graduate work in biochemistry.

In 1939, he was hired by Rahr Malting Company in Manitowoc, WI as an Asst. Chemist, He and Dorothy Greenwood were married in 1940 and they raised three daughters together. Frank worked for Rahr's until he retired in 1978, attaining the position of Director of Quality Control after transferring to the Shakopee, MN plant in 1962. Dorothy died in 1977.

Frank later married Mary Carlsen and they spent many years of their retirement enjoying golf, travel and some extremely competitive board games. He loved playing games and was a gardener, a hunter, and a lifelong learner. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for most of his life.

Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy, his parents, his brothers George and Raymond, and sisters Harriet, Gert, and Ethel.

He is survived by his wife Mary, his daughters Jean Bawden, Barbara Bawden, and Liz (Scott) Wilson, and Mary's three children Merilee Fryer, Spike (Kat) Carlsen, and Patti (Ray) Wiley along with grandchildren Joe, Maggie, Sarah, Zach, Tessa, Kellie, Kayla, Luke, Annie, Kirstin, and Erin as well as several great grandchildren.

A private ceremony will be held at The Wellstead of Rogers at a later date.

Private Family burial will be held at Hyde Cemetery in Hyde, Wisconsin.
