Mineral Point - Mavis Joyce (Rule) Gratz, age 87, of Mineral Point, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Mineral Point, after a long illness.
She was born in Dodgeville, WI on August 19, 1928 Orville and Christina (Martin) Rule. She attended several country schools and Cobb High School. She met her future husband, Robert Gratz at the Dodgeville roller skating rink. They were married on February 22, 1947 and to this union three children were born: Jeanne, Betty and Jim. The couple farmed on the Roy Gratz farm near Waldwick for 11 years before moving into Mineral Point.
After moving to town she worked at: Burgess Battery, General Telephone Co., John I Hahn, Lands End, and Heaven Scent Floral. She was one of the first 12 people to work at Lands End in Dodgeville. She was also an Avon Representative. She volunteered at Upland Hills Health and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineral Point. She was a member of the Sarah Circle and held many committee positions including Sunday School Teacher, as well as working at Church suppers and funeral lunches. She was also a member of the Pleasant View Homemakers Club. She was a cancer survivor and proud of her many blood bank donations.
She enjoyed her grandchildren; trips to Branson, MO and many other places; playing cards; bird feeding and bird watching; and trips to the countryside to view the growing farm crops and to watch for deer.
She is survived by her children Jeanne (Tom) Rowe, Betty Johnson, and Jim (Marcia) Gratz; grandchildren Paul and Troy Johnson and Amber Gratz; sisters Mary Gordon and Ellen Chatten; brothers Harold (Loretta) Rule and Pat Rule; sisters in law Mary Rule, Bessie Rule, and Joan (Avery) Ashmore; and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Christina (Martin) Rule; step mother Jayne (Vivian) Rule; In-laws Roy and Ruth (Gribble) Gratz; husband Robert L. Gratz; brothers Wilfred, LaVerne and Ronald Rule; an infant sister and infant brother; brothers in law Jim Gordon and Gary Chatten; sister in law Ellen Rule; and other relatives and friends.
Thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and CNA's for their special care while she lived at Stonefield Apartments, Crestridge Assisted Living, Bloomfield Manor, and Atrium PAC of Mineral Point and to Hospice of Upland Hills Health.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Mineral Point. Pastor Gerhardt Miller will officiate. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
