Madison / Dodgeville – Mary D. Samuelsen, age 93, beloved wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
She was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, January 21, 1929, to Leonard and Agnes Meuer Dunbar. She left Dodgeville after graduating from high school and began her adult life and long friendships here in Madison. Her career included employment at Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., Dunn & Bradstreet, and 27 years of part-time work at Gimbels and Marshall Fields. For about 9 years, she worked with Conventions Plus Tours, and became a fond and experienced traveler. She was married to her first husband, Donald M Jones, from 1951 until his death in 1988.
On August 6, 1992, she married Gordon Samuelsen of Madison with whom she shared 30 wonderful years. Together they enjoyed many vacation tours and cruises. She was a warm friend and a joy to all who knew her. The sorrow of her passing is eased by memories of her love of life, laughter, compassion, and empathy for others.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Gordon, her daughter Karen Jones (Clint Welch) children Jared Welch and Kristin Freeland (John), son Jim Jones (Maureen) children Nathan Jones (Emi), Angela Jones (Patrick Motard), Amiee Koch (Jordan) and Christopher Jones, son Tom Jones (Donna) children Nick, Christian and Cameron, stepson Don Samuelsen (Suzanne) children Dan (Tessa), Mark (Samera) and Noah (Lauren), stepson Jim Samuelsen children Brooke Durant (Matt) and Micah Samuelsen (Coleen), and stepson Grant Samuelsen (Marcie) children Christine and Katelynn, and stepdaughter Janet Roberts (Mark) children Lisa Weinrich (Justin) and Kristin Raiford (Rich), and 15 loving great grandchildren.
A Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Dr., Madison with Fr. Bart Timmerman presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Tuesday at the church. After Mass, friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon at church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
A private interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dodgeville.
