Obituary

Dodgeville / Mineral Point - Mary Catherine Martin, 95, of Dodgeville, formerly of Mineral Point, passed away on March 26, 2012. She was born in Mineral Point, WI on October 12, 1916, the daughter of William and Katherine (Pickar) Knapp. Mary attended St. Mary's grade school and graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1935. After graduation she was employed at Commonwealth Telephone Co. in Mineral Point for ten years.

On April 24, 1946 Mary was united in marriage to Robert E. Martin. Along with her husband, they owned Martin's Shell Service and Martin's 76 Service Station in Mineral Point for 36 years. They were also charter members of Dodge-Point Golf Club. Mary was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its Altar Society, and a member of the Mineral Point American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed golfing, playing cards with her friends, and attending area parades with her family. As a young woman, a favorite pastime was attending dances "at the lake" in Mineral Point.

Mary is survived by four children, Jane (Bernie) Powers, Sun Prairie, and their children Steven (Carrie) Powers and Amy Powers; Jim (Gola) Martin, Watertown, and their children Jeffrey (Emily) Martin and Kyle Martin; Dean (Joni) Martin, Dodgeville; Beth Martin, Dodgeville, and her daughter Meghan (Sam) Adams.

Eight great-grandchildren, Jackson and Kate Powers, Max and Eliana Powers-Robinson, Jenna and Elliott Martin, and Sammy and Drew Adams further survive Great Grandma Mary.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, two sisters, Aurelia (Ernest) Palzkill and Helen (Henry) Kober.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012 at Ss. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH with Father James Hinnen officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point and from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be given in Mary's name to either St. Mary's/St Paul's Catholic Church, Mineral Point, WI or Upland Hills Hospice, Dodgeville, WI.
