Mineral Point - Mark Leo Finkelmeyer, age 47, of Mineral Point, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, following an extended illness. He was born to Paul and Gola Finkelmeyer on January 19, 1975, the youngest of seven children. His birth was greatly anticipated, and he did not disappoint. He grew up on the family farm attending Mineral Point schools before graduating from Mineral Point High School in 1993. He played golf all four years of high school and was a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA).

In high school, Mark met his future wife Debi Whitford. Several years later, fate brought them back together, a union that was meant to be. On January 22, 2004, they were married. A daughter, Laney, the apple of her father's eye, blessed their marriage. As a husband and father, Mark rose to the occasion. His love for Debi and Laney knew no bounds. Their love for him blew Mark away. It was evidenced by their constant presence and unwavering support during his health challenges the last few years.

As a young boy, Mark began working for Ray Wearing, a mentor and close family friend. He maintained Ray's home and yard and then became one of his primary caregivers allowing Ray to stay at home until his passing. In addition to his role on the family farm, he worked at Bossert Auto Body, Steffes Trucking and Ivey Construction. During this time, he also owned and operated a custom hay cutting business working nights and weekends cutting hay on numerous Mineral Point farms. While driving for Ivey Construction, his interest in blasting was piqued, leading him to pursue a career in the blasting industry. This pursuit culminated in him joining the stellar team at Ahlgrimm Explosives and eventually earning his blaster's license. It was a perfect fit. The loyalty and commitment shown to Mark by the Ahlgrimm family was deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.

Whether at work or at play, Mark walked with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. He possessed a can-do attitude that served him well throughout his life. There was no project, no challenge that couldn't and wouldn't be tackled, if Mark was around. He just went ahead and did it. No questions asked. Work wasn't work to Mark. It was a lifestyle. He exuded confidence and enthusiasm for any and all jobs whether it be sorting cattle, vaccinating calves, mending fences, servicing farm machinery or prepping a blast site.

Mark is survived by his wife, Debi, and daughter, Laney, both of Mineral Point and stepdaughter Josie (Justice Storm), Winter Haven, FL. He is further survived by his siblings, Randall and Michael (Deb) of Mineral Point; Stephen, Chicago; Mary Alice (Todd) Argall, New Glarus; Joyce (Kim) Argall, Neenah; and Jean Finkelmeyer, Middleton; a nephew, Eric Argall, Mineral Point, who credits Mark for molding him into the man he is today; mother-in-law, Sharon Whitford, Mineral Point; his sister-in-law, Cyndi (Kris) Eggers, Mount Horeb; aunts and uncles, Hubert and Joyce Mester, Pauline Clayton, Jackie Clayton, Roger Clayton and Dorothy Finkelmeyer; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul (2000) and Gola (2021); his father-in-law, Rod Whitford (2003), and his nephew, Nick Argall (2022).

Mark was truly one of a kind, a farm boy through and through. In a physical sense, Mark has left the farm, his spirit never will.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October, 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Ss. Mary & Paul Catholic Church in Mineral Point. Fr. Michael Tarigopula will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 4:00 Until 8:00 PM at the Gorgen Funeral Home in Mineral Point and on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:50 AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the Iowa County Cancer Coalition would be appreciated.
