Madison/ Mineral Point - Marion G. Benson, age 85 passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare campus in Madison.
Marion was born on July 2, 1928 to John and Dorothy (Jelliffe) Benson in Mineral Point. She was a member of the Franciscan Order of Nuns from 1940 until 1972. She left the Order to care for her sister Lula Belle's children at the time of her death. She later was employed by Meriter Hospital in the dietary department until her retirement in 2007. Marion was a long time member of St. Patrick and Cathedral parishes and a volunteer at Capital Lakes Retirement Center. She enjoyed embroidery and jewelry making. She recently moved to the All Saints retirement center where she resided along with her sister, Evaline.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lula Belle (Bob), and brothers Gene, Marlin (Cheryl), Warren (Virginia) and nephews Michael and Christopher.
She is survived by sister Evaline, brothers John, Gary (Shirley), Jim (Peggy), Claire and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Ss. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mineral Point. Fr. Monte Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church.
A Memorial Mass will also be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Madison on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to say thanks to Reverent Monsignor Kevin Holmes, the medical staff at Meriter Hospitals, her friends in the Dietary Dept. at Meriter Hospital and to Agrace Hospice staff for their compassionate care. Her many friends offered love and support during Marion's hospitalization.
Memorials preferred to her favorite charity, the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
