Obituary

Dodgeville – Margaret A. (Meudt) Wiest, age 98, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center with her family by her side.

She was born June 25, 1923 at her home in the Pleasant Ridge community to Fred and Mary (Adams) Meudt. On June 24, 1944, she married her husband, John H. Wiest, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Together they farmed in the Pleasant Ridge community on the Wiest century farm, where they raised their family. When their youngest started kindergarten, Margaret began working at Amphenol in Dodgeville. In 1985, they retired and moved to Dodgeville, where they began hosting "Happy Hour" every Friday, a tradition that continued until the day she passed away.

Margaret enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She always had a big garden and beautiful flowers. Holidays were always made special with her decorations and baked treats. She loved playing six handed euchre, scratch-off lottery tickets and going to the casino to gamble on the slot machines. Margaret was an avid Packer and Badger fan and was commissioner of the family March Madness bracket pool.

As one of the founders of St. Peter's and Paul's Preservation in 1980, Margaret was instrumental in forming the organization and preserving the church.

Margaret is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Lyle) Antonson of Dodgeville; John of Spring Green; Dan (Kathy) of Yorkville, Illinois; Laurie (Jim) Goldthorpe of Dodgeville; Larry (Julie) of Green Bay; Jeanne (Ted) Meister of Dodgeville; and Joe (Becky) of Comstock Park, Michigan; twenty grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years; her parents; brothers Francis, Charles, Fred, Laurence and Paul; and sister, Eleanore; and all of her brothers and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff members at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab for their tireless and compassionate care and for making Margaret a part of their family.
