Obituary

Dodgeville – Magdalen E. "Maggie" Rochon, age 95, longtime resident of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2014.

Magdalen was born on March 5, 1919 on the family farm in rural Dodgeville. She was the first child of Adam and Stella (Heibel) Miess and their only daughter. Her brothers were Paul, Robert, Eugene and Glen. She attended grades 1 through 8 in a one room school house and graduated from Dodgeville High School. Maggie attended Harper Method beautician training in Madison before heading to Louisville, Kentucky to work. There she met Andre J. Rochon, formerly of Detroit, Michigan, at a party they were attending. They returned to Dodgeville to wed in 1941. Maggie and Andy settled in the Dearborn/Detroit area, where they started their family with the birth of Patricia in 1942. Two more children, David and Paul, were born there. The big move to Dodgeville and farming occurred in 1947. Five more children had been born, Leonard, Mark, Laura, Kenneth and Yvonne, and raised in rural life.

Farming became a family affair, where Maggie was a mother, housewife, blessed in folk medicine and partner to Andy in farming. Andy passed away in a tractor accident on November 30, 1972. In the years that followed, she took employment as a companion to the elderly, was a skilled seamstress, active in the Women's Club, produced and processed food from the garden and studied the bible with others interested.

Maggie gave her family loving guidance, support, knowledge about life, a sense of spirituality, the goals of education and a strong work ethic.

Maggie's had 67 total immediate descendants and is survived by her children, Patricia Johnson, David Rochon, Paul (Debra) Rochon, Leonard Rochon, Mark (Tina) Rochon, Laura Macias, Kenneth (Toni) Rochon and Yvonne (John) Yager; many grandchildren, great grandchildren other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Magdalen's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.

On Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., a religious service with a bible talk will be held at the KINGDOM HALL, 3265 Lehner Road, Dodgeville. Any other activities associated will be announced at the services.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Upland Hills Nursing & Rehab Center, 800 Compassion Way, Dodgeville, WI 53533, where Maggie received exceptional care and love.
