Mineral Point - Lillian Adele (Kuhn) Lawinger, age 94, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016, at her home in Mineral Point.
She was born on September 28, 1921, to Frederick Carl Kuhn and Charlotte ("Lottie") Belle McGranahan Kuhn in Wausau, Wisconsin. Lillian graduated from Belmont High School and Platteville Teachers College. She taught school in Avoca and at Cornell with her college and longtime friend, Annabelle Schaaf.
In 1943 Lillian married Edward J. Lawinger and together they built their lives and family around farming for 32 years in Mineral Point. After farm life Lillian enjoyed her library work at M.P.H.S. and 23 years at the Mineral Point Public Library.
Mom was a wonderful homemaker, enjoyed reading, gardening, ceramics, dancing, watching movies, playing cards, traveling with Edward and trips with family. Family and faith were important parts of Mom's life. Lillian was very proud of her eight children. She was always there to offer a ride or companionship to her friends.
Lillian was a member of St. Mary and St. Paul Parish, a Past President of the Council of Catholic Women, and belonged to the Legion of Mary.
Lillian is survived by her eight children John (Lois) Lawinger, Mineral Point, Barbara (John) Hogan, Uvalde, Texas, Constance (Robert) Salmon, Middleton, David (Jan) Lawinger, Mineral Point, Deborah (Jerry) Meylor, Cottage Grove, Paul (Cindy) Lawinger, Dodgeville, Marcia (James) Lorang, Cambridge, Frederick (Peggy) Lawinger, Madison; her brother Gary (Linda) Kuhn; 22 grandchildren: Jeffrey, John A., Matthew, Camille, Christie, Laura, Stephanie, Kevin, Neil, Angela, Brett, Todd, Erica, Brittany, Joseph, Sarah, Noah, Adam, Grant, Quinn, Derek, Dylan; 17 great grandchildren: Nicholas, Cassidy, Ashton, Baily, Maria, Lucas, Abigail, Samuel, Sydney, Jay, Brianne, Cody, Austin, Taylor, Liam, Garrett, Braxton; one great-great grandchild, Ezra; her sisters-in-law, Betty Lawinger, Mineral Point, Sister Virgine (Dorothy) Lawinger and Virginia Lawinger, Germantown; and many nieces and nephews.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her parents Frederick and Lottie Kuhn, her brothers, Donald and Allen Kuhn, her sister, Marjorie MacKenzie, her brothers-in-law, Ralph Lawinger, Joseph (Avis) Lawinger and Raymond Lawinger, and great grandchild, John Edward Lawinger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Ss. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mineral Point. Fr. Jim Leeser will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point, and on Wednesday from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. at the church. A rosary service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:45 p.m.
