Mineral Point/Dodgeville –
Kathryn (Kate) Mary Mitchell, age 91, passed away peacefully the morning of Thursday, September 22nd at Upland Hills Hospital. She resided at the Upland Hills Nursing Home since 2017, but lived most of her life in Mineral Point. She was born on February 11th, 1931 in Montfort, Wisconsin and was the 6th child of eight children born to Philip and Mae (Cordts) Spoerle. She was raised on the family farm in Montfort. She graduated from Montfort High School in 1949.

She married Keith Dexter Mitchell on June 7th, 1949 in Dubuque, IA. They were married 51 years until his passing in 2001. Besides being a wonderful Mother and Grandmother, she ran the family businesses with her husband. They were Keith's Texaco and wrecker service, K&M Salvage, Point Auto Parts, and Dodgeville Auto Supply. At the full service gas station, she was the bookkeeper, pumped gas, and operated the tire changer. After purchasing the parts store, she became the main parts salesperson. She taught herself how to look up parts and later operate the computer.

Memories of Kate are her contagious smile, her dancing, gardening, baking plum pie with the greatest crust ever made, and making the best potato salad. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She loved attending Mineral Point sporting events to watch her sons and grandchildren. Also, she loved the Pointers, Packers, Badgers, and Brewers.

Kate is survived by two of her three children, Richard (Marla) Mitchell of Mineral Point, Karen (Dennis) Trace of Dodgeville. Five grandchildren: Christopher (Quinn) Mitchell, Phillip (Carissa) Mitchell, Jennifer (Evan) Chambers, Kyle (Roni) Trace, and Danielle Trace. Six great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Casen and Kennedy Mitchell, Scarlette and Braelynn Trace, and Reid Chambers. She is also survived by 2 sisters-in-law: Josephine Spoerle and Marie Driskill. Also, she is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son Larry Mitchell (2017), brothers Fred (Fritz), Harold, Gottlieb (Bud), Ralph, and Richard (Dick), sisters Jean and Caroline, parents-in-law Martin and Lenys (Gard) Mitchell. Sisters-in-law: Ruby Spoerle, Lorena Spoerle, Betty Lou Spoerle, and Florence (Mitchell) Stephens. Brothers-in-law: Lester Kelly, Robert (Bob) Wolenec, and Leon (Steve) Stephens. Also, she is preceded in death by several nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 12 noon until 2:00 pm at the Gorgen Funeral Home in Mineral Point with a family service to follow. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
A Celebration of Kate's Life will held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at the Dodge Point Country Club.
