Obituary

Mineral Point - John Stenson, age 90, of Mineral Point formerly of Evanston, Illinois, passed peacefully at Bloomfield Rehabilitation Center, Dodgeville, Wisconsin on Friday, October 21, 2016.

He was born at home in Milwaukee, May 8, 1926 he was the third son of Margaret Ruth and Joseph F. H. Stenson. A graduate of Wauwatosa High School, in his senior year 1944, John placed second in the state high school diving championship. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy, following his brothers in support of the war effort. He received a business degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1950. His business career spanned five decades as a successful painting contractor in Milwaukee, Kenosha and Chicago; much of his work was special coatings and church restoration.

John is survived by his wife Jane of 49 years; their sons Geoffrey Edward (Amy) of Green Bay, Geordan Douglas Kerr (Alyssa) of Oak Park, Illinois, and James Ramsey of Bangkok, Thailand; two daughters Loren (Laretti) and Heather (McGarey) both of Lewiston, Colorado are from a previous marriage. John was very proud of his seven accomplished and energetic grandchildren Katherine, Zachary, Evan, Andrew, Lillian, Mattie Rose, and Lily, as well as two nephews Jay of Cave Creek, Arizona, Curt of Phoenix, Arizona and a niece Margaret from Portland, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

A Celebration of the Life of John Stenson will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 403 High Street, Mineral Point. Rev. Brian Backstrand will officiate. Funeral lunch will follow at Tequilla Point, 43 High Street, Mineral Point.
