Obituary

Dodgeville – Janelle M. Simpson, age 91, of Dodgeville, WI, passed away on January 12, 2019 at Bloomfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Jane Marie Quirk on October 13, 1927 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dodgeville. She graduated from Dodgeville High School and furthered her education by taking an art correspondence course. A talented artist, she worked for Cerutti Monument for many years and has long-delighted her friends with handmade cards at Christmastime and other original artworks.

Janelle married William S. Simpson on November 12, 1966 and joined him running the Simpson family farm just outside of Dodgeville. They were dairy farmers for many years and shared a love of horses. They bred and raised Arabian and Quarter Horses for over 40 years and a number of Janelle's extraordinary art pieces are depictions of horses. In 2005, Janelle became somewhat famous as "the kangaroo lady" when a kangaroo mysteriously appeared on her property and was captured in her barn.

Janelle will be missed by the many neighbors and friends who were like family to her. She is preceded in death by her mother, Hilda Quirk and her husband, Bill.

A Graveside Burial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at EAST SIDE CEMETERY in Dodgeville. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
