Obituary

Dodgeville - Hazel A. Kelly, age 95, of Dodgeville, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at CrestRidge Memory Care in Dodgeville.

Hazel was born on the family farm near Dodgeville on February 6, 1922, the second child of four to Thomas and SeCelia (Christianson) Anderson. After graduating from Dodgeville High School, Hazel attended Madison Vocational School and received an associate degree in business. Upon graduation, she went to work for Dr. Morton, a Dodgeville physician.

On January 14, 1943, Hazel married her long-time sweetheart Irving Kelly at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville. They lived throughout the U.S. for the following three years while Hazel accompanied Irv during his WWII service with the U.S. Army Air Corp. They settled in Horicon, Wisconsin – a great small town with the nicest people. Hazel had her dream job of being the receptionist at John Deere, where she would greet visitors and answered all the phone calls at her switch board with, "Good morning John Deere".

They moved to Hazel's family farm, "Sunnyslope" in 1987. Hazel and Irv enjoyed the land, the view of Blue Mound and their workshop in the barn. Hazel took up carving seasonal objects, creating jewelry pieces to give to family and friends.

Hazel is survived by her children Sandra Mason of Madison and Thomas (Kathie) Kelly of Mineral Point; her grandchildren Dirk Mason (Samantha Kaplan) and Eric Mason; her step grandchildren Adam (Crystal) Landon and Matt Landon; her great grandchildren Larkin and Linden Mason; her step great grandchildren Naidah and Brynlee Landon; her sister-in-law Carol (Bill) Fitzgerald of Dodgeville; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Irving, her parents, her son-in-law Bob Mason, her siblings Homer Anderson, Esther Anderson Sullivan and Arthur Anderson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at PLYMOUTH CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST in Dodgeville. Rev. Joylynn Graham will officiate. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until time of service on Sunday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ.
