Platteville – Harold Vernon Williams, age 79, of Platteville died on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at University Hospital in Madison.
He was born on July 21, 1938 in Lena, IL, a son of the late Ernest and Edith (Atz) Williams. He graduated from Winslow High School in 1956. On May 31, 1956, he married Corrinne Rabe; they spent 38 years together until her death in 1994. Harold farmed in Stephenson County until moving to South Wayne in 1976. In 1986, he moved to St. Germaine, WI and operated Williams Twin Shores Resort alongside of Corrinne. On March 15, 1996, Harold married Sally Jo Zart and resided in Platteville.
Harold and his brother-in-law Lloyd Boelk started Little League Baseball for area kids in Winslow, IL. He enjoyed waterskiing, playing slow pitch and snowmobiling when he was younger. He also loved the outdoors, fishing at his secret lake, bear hunting with his dogs, especially Pepper, turkey hunting. He worked at Burnham Lumber since 1997 and was a member of the Wisconsin Bear Hunters Asso.
Harold is survived by his wife Sally; his sons Darcy of South Wayne, Darwin and Derek both of Monroe; his daughter Denise (Steve) Johnson of Argyle; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; his sister Gloria Heid; his sister-in-law Karen Newill; his brothers-in-law Ray Eder and Lloyd Boelk; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Corrinne, his parents, his in-laws Eldon and Ardeth Rabe and Frank and June Zart, his brother Dale, his sister Irma Eder, his sisters-in-law Carma Boelk, Gloria Williams and Lisa Zart, his brothers-in-law Don Newill and Loyal Heid and his grandson Chad Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
