Obituary

Linden - Harley James Baker, age 86, of Linden, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 21, 2013.

He was born on November 18, 1926 the son of George and Jenny (Chatt) Baker. He graduated from Linden High School in 1944, and then served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Harley married Betty Gard on June 23, 1951.

He worked several jobs during his life, later retiring from Nelson Muffler in Mineral Point, where they named a press after him "The Harley Press". He was a member of the Linden American Legion Post #493. He enjoyed many things; playing horse shoes, camping, fishing, reading, cards, and spending the winters in Texas for the last 20 years.

Harley is survived by his wife of 62 years Betty, a son Mark (Jean) Baker of Linden, daughters; Diane Baker of Monroe, and Laurie Baker of Platteville, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a sister Alice Faull of Linden, daughter-in-laws Rose Baker and Rachel Bartle, and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sons Bill Bartle and Bruce Baker, a grandson CJ Baker-Segner, a daughter-in-law Judy Bartle, and several siblings.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the LINDEN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Linden. Pastor Becky Henke will officiate. Burial will be in the Linden Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Military Rites will be accorded by the Linden American Legion Post #493 at the church.
