Dodgeville / LaCrosse – Genevieve I. "Gen" Donahue, age 97, of Dodgeville, formerly of LaCrosse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Bloomfield Healthcare & Rehab Center in rural Dodgeville.
Gen was born December 25, 1917 in LaCrosse, a daughter of the late Mathias and Anna Spah. She graduated from Central High School in LaCrosse. She worked at Moen Photo and Paramount Studios for many years. She also worked as a Bar Manager at DA Club, the Cavalier and Memories. Gen tended bar until the age of 85. She loved her customers and the friendships she established while in the bar business. For a pastime, Gen enjoyed bowling and golf.
In 2008, Gen moved to Dodgeville to live with her son and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed being with her family, going out for dinner and an occasional visit to the casinos.
Gen is survived by her son, Joel "Duke" (Louise) Donahue; her grandchildren, Scott Donahue, Jeff (Kristie) Donahue, Deb (Dan) Rosenthal, Ann (Jim) Swenson and Patti Jasinski; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; her dear friends, Pat Drier and Jerry and Bernie Besl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marie Jirsa, her brothers, Frank, George and Edward Spah.
Private family services will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dodgeville at a later date.
