Janesville / Mineral Point - Ellen White, age 99, of Janesville and formerly of Mineral Point passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Guardian Angel Assisted Living in Janesville.
She was born in Mineral Point on September 6, 1917, the daughter of Hugh and Myrtle (Paynter) Owens. She attended Mineral Point schools graduating from Mineral Point High School in 1935. She worked in a U.S. Government loan office in Dodgeville for 5 years until her marriage to Harlan White of Darlington on September 19, 1940. They farmed for 13 years near Waldwick and then moved to Mineral Point in 1953. They owned and operated a feed warehouse from 1954 until retirement in 1980. Ellen was a life-long member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Mineral Point. She enjoyed gardening, was an avid sports fan of the Packers, Badgers, and especially the Brewers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she never missed a birthday. Ellen also loved to write letters and send cards.
She is survived by her daughter Joyce (David) Schaaf of Janesville, 3 granddaughters Polly (John) Barry of Janesville, Julie (Scott) Beck of Menominee Falls, and Sarah (Clint Johnson) Schaaf of Seneca, great-grandchildren Trent and Tanner Moe, Elena, Brennen and Adam Beck, and Ava Jo Johnson, a sister-in-law Eileen White and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harlan, a son Bruce, a brother Chester (Marjorie) Owens and a sister Ethel (Herb) Stone.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST in Mineral Point. Pastor Luke Bocher will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST in Mineral Point.
