Mineral Point – Elizabeth (Mae) James, age 93, of Mineral Point, passed away on Tuesday, May, 23, 2017, at the Uplands Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dodgeville surrounded by her loving family.
Mae was born to Edwin and Clara (Mickelson) Roethlisberger on May 10, 1924, at home in Barneveld. She was raised on their dairy farm and attended all 12 years of school in Barneveld, graduating in 1942. Mae worked for Badger Ordinance in Baraboo from 1943-1944 where she met her future husband Robert (Bob) James. Mae and Bob were married at the Mount Horeb Lutheran Parsonage on November 7, 1945. Together they raised three sons on various dairy farms in Iowa and Lafayette Counties from 1946 to 1994, building their retirement home on Highway 23 in 1983.
Mae was always a hard working farm partner for the family. Her hobbies included reading, listening to music, visiting with family and friends, and in previous years being able to travel and go to the casinos.
Mae is survived by two sons, David, and Thomas (Christina) all of Mineral Point; two grandchildren, Staci (Matt) Sauer, Mineral Point, and Jeremiah James, Combined Locks, WI; two great-grandsons, Aiden and Landen Sauer, Mineral Point; several cousins, nephews, nieces, and a special niece Carol Small.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob who died on April 2, 1997; her son, Donald, who died on December 28, 2002; two brothers, Albert and Harold; one sister Marie Thompson; in-laws Raleigh and Estella (Terrill) James; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, Mineral Point. Pastor Cal Schaver will officiate. Burial will be in the Waldwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hodan Center or Faith Lutheran Church both in Mineral Point.
The family wants to thank all the staff of UHH N&RC for Mae's excellent care over the past several years.
