Mineral Point - Eileen F. Cooney (Eileen McDermott), age 96, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully Friday, July 16, 2021 in the care of Mineral Point Health Services. She was born on November 30, 1924, the daughter of Vincent J. McDermott & Jewelly (McCluskey) McDermott.

EIleen was an avid reader, intellectually ahead of her time, crossword aficionado, traveler, proud of her family and Irish heritage. She loved attending family gatherings, watching her grandchildren, attending events including sports, Irish dance.

Eileen worked many years in Dodgeville. She touched many lives with her kindness and wit, especially the relationships with her grandchildren

She is survived by her two children John (Lorrie Hartman) Cooney and Kathleen (Mark) Schaaf; her four grandchildren Michael Schaaf (Crystal), Brandon Schaaf (Misty), Brian Schaaf and Bridget Cooney; her eight great grandchildren Mariah, Braelyn, Alea, Reagan, Everly, Natalie, Shane, Oaklee; her sister Doris Basting; her goddaughter Teresa MacGilvra; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Mary, sisters Rita McDermott and Margaret Schmitz, her niece Carol Schmitz, her nephew Gary Schmitz, her brothers-in-law Jack Basting and Don Schmitz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at SS. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mineral Point. Fr. Michael Tarigopula will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 until 10:50 a.m. at the church.
