Barneveld - Dorothy Jean McSherry age 81 of Barneveld passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
She was born February 19, 1934, the daughter of Alvin and Mary (Pearce) Evans and grew up in Barneveld.
Dorothy graduated from Barneveld High School in 1951. After high school she attended college in Madison. She returned to Barneveld and worked at several businesses and also became part owner of the Village Bar and began working in the lunchroom at the Barneveld school. After surviving the Barneveld tornado in 1984, she began working at 1000 Island Bar.
She retired from 1000 Island Bar and the school which gave her time to attend her grandchildren's events, knitting blankets for her children and grandchildren and baking and cooking for her family and friends. Dorothy's delicious holiday meals were made with much love and something her family looked forward to. She was a big sports fan following the Barneveld Eagles, Brewers, Packers and Badgers.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Mark McSherry, Gregg (Julie Evans) McSherry, Paul (Teri) McSherry, Ann Thompson and Amy (Brad) Gordon; her grandchildren, Kyle (fiancé, Jenny) and Beau Thompson, Keli and Krista McSherry, Alec McSherry, Trey and Kennedy Gordon and Lizzy and Landon Beicher as well as her first great-grandchild expected in February. Dorothy is also survived by her brother, LeRoy "Bud" Evans as well as her special Evans niece and nephews and grandpets. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Robert McSherry; and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2015 at MIDDLEBURY CHAPEL, 2535 County Road H, Barneveld. Pastor Kirsten Curtis will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the MIDDLEBURY CHAPEL. Inurnment will be held at the Middlebury Cemetery following the funeral. No luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family which will go to Upland Hills Hospice, as well as, charities that were close to Dorothy.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jodi McGraw and Dr. X Mullen and staff for their care, Upland Hills Hospice for the amazing care and support given to Dorothy and her family and her special neighbors and friends in the Barneveld community for their friendship and many visits throughout the years. Dorothy cherished her visits with friends and family.
Dorothy was a special person with a kind heart that touched many lives. You will be deeply missed and we love you.
