Dodgeville – Dorothy B. Johnson, age 98, of Dodgeville, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Cedar Crest Nursing Home in Janesville, WI, after a short illness.
The former Dorothy Retrum was born on December 21, 1921, in Moscow Township, Iowa County, WI to Conrad and Maude (Hamman) Retrum. She married Reuben Johnson on June 21, 1944. The couple was married for 67 years until he preceded her in death in 2011. They were members of Grace Lutheran Church and for many years they had one of the largest canning gardens in town. Dorothy also enjoyed making quilts and afghans, baking, making lefse, and watching her grandchildren when they were young. Reuben and Dorothy also volunteered at the Upland Hills Health gift shop for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; her two children Gloria Johnson and Roland Johnson; five sisters, Anna Nelson, Lillian Milestone, Ruth Guthers, Myrtle Christianson, and Clara Hendrickson; and a brother, Lawrence Retrum.
Dorothy is survived by two grandchildren, Jordan (Thomas Perry), and Alex Johnson (Carly Cook), as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Public visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville with proper social distancing and masks required.
A private family service will follow with burial at the East Side Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
