Mineral Point / Spring Green - Doris M. Schaaf, age 84, died on Monday, April 25, 2016 at The Meadows Assisted Living Center in Spring Green, after a long illness.

She was born on August 13, 1931 in Mineral Point, the daughter of Nicholas and Rose (Beckius) Schaaf. She graduated as valedictorian from Mineral Point High School in 1949 and was immediately hired by Wisconsin Power and Light, where she worked until her retirement. Doris was a lifelong Mineral Point resident and a faithful member of Ss. Mary & Paul Parish. She was generous with both her time and her money. She contributed substantially to charities at both the local and national level, was treasurer of the Mineral Point Community Chest for 25 years, volunteered tirelessly with the Mineral Point Historical Society and the Mineral Point Care Center, and assisted with church fundraisers. She was a devout Catholic who attended daily Mass. Doris enjoyed spending time with family and especially delighted in holidays and birthday parties at the Schaaf and Dunbar households. She loved Mineral Point, whether there was a parade, a gathering at the Gundry House, or a city band concert.

Doris is survived by a brother-in-law, Bill Fitzgerald, a sister-in-law, Teresa Schaaf, nieces and nephews Kathy Fitzgerald (Robert Savoy), Julie (Ron) Dunbar, Mark Fitzgerald (Karen Brey), Jan (Mark) Mailloux, Steve Schaaf, Sandy Schaaf, and 11 grand-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Rose, by her brother Jack, by her twin sister, Donna, and by a nephew, Michael Fitzgerald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Ss. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mineral Point. Father Jim Leeser will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point with a parish Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m.

The family thanks the residents of Mineral Point for caring for Doris while she suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. Whether it was helping her park her car or letting family know when she struggled to write a check, you were there for her in her time of need. The family also thanks the staff at The Meadows for loving Doris and caring for her with hearts full of compassion.
