Mineral Point - Donald L. Jacobson, age 75, of Mineral Point passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.
Donald Lee Jacobson was born in Dodgeville on July 2, 1938, to Glenn V. Jacobson and Lela M. (Gordon) Jacobson, the third of seven children. He passed away at his home in Mineral Point on January 29, 2014. Don attended schools in Argyle, Waldwick and Hollandale, then Mineral Point High School, graduating in 1958, where he excelled in sports, especially football.
Don was married to Janet B. Jackson of Dodgeville, on July 11, 1959. Don learned the art of metal spinning, working at Carnes Corporation in Verona, and later with Spincraft, after moving to Milwaukee in 1960. He played semi-pro football for the Racine Raiders for several years, followed by a stint with the Richmond (VA) Rebels, and a tryout with the Miami Dolphins. A crowd would gather to watch him pull his big old Chrysler around Milwaukee County Stadium, using a special harness, to keep himself in shape. After football, he went to work for REX Chainbelt for a number of years in West Milwaukee as an Estimator.
Don later owned and operated Accurate Grating Co. in St. Paul, MN, manufacturing exterior Fire Escapes and Industrial Walkways. He retired in 2006, after 20 years as an Interstate Freight Hauler. B.B. King and Muddy Waters were often heard coming out of his Semi Tractor. Sports and fishing were favorite past-times, and as per his wishes, his cremains will be spread to the wind over his favorite fishing lake.
Don is survived by his loving children, Bethany Jacobson-Flieger (David Flieger) of Osseo, Barry Jacobson of Mineral Point, and Betsy Jacobson of Stevens Point, his siblings Rodger (Leone) Jacobson, Judith Filardo, Jerry (Kim) Jacobson, Linda (Jeremy) Meek, Keith (Laura Reynolds) Jacobson, two grandsons and two great grandsons, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Maxine (Robert) Severson, and daughter-in-law Kathy Jacobson.
A Memorial Service will be held at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME, 310 Ridge Street, Mineral Point on February 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Becky Henke officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
