He attended grade school at St. Anthony's and high school in Highland, and finally Dodgeville, graduating with the class of 1946. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in the spring of that year and attained the rank of Corporal before being Honorably Discharged in 1949.

Don worked for the Iowa County Highway Department, Ryan Incorporated and for a period of self employment running his own construction business. He then ended his career as a grader operator for Mann Brothers and Yahara Materials, as a member of Operating Engineers Local 139.

In 1951, he met Evelyn Wilkins, they were married in 1953. Evelyn died in 1964 from complications of MS. In 1982, he met the second love of his life, Evelyn Terrill. She was his constant companion, dance partner, and partner in life for the past 33 years. In the end, she was his caregiver, and as a family, we cannot begin to thank her enough for all that she has meant to Dad.

Don is survived by Evelyn Terrill of Mineral Point, and her children Todd, Billy, Tammy (deceased) and Tess, and her children, particularly Sean and Steven Voigts, whom they considered Don to be Grandpa; his sister, Mary Jean Egan of Monona; two sons, Kim (Torre) and Kurt (Mary) all of Dodgeville; a stepdaughter, Kelly O'Brien of Middleton. He is further survived by three granddaughters, Natalie (fiance Cody Durni) of Dodgeville and Nicolette (DanBandyk) of San Diego, CA and Melissa Donahue of Middleton, WI; twin grandsons, Nicholas (Lindsay) and Matthew (Olga) both of Anchorage, AK, and two great granddaughters, Evelysa and Annamaria, and twin great grandchildren due in February 2016.
