Dodgeville - Charles R. "Chuck" Williams, age 88 years young, of Dodgeville, left this earth to dance among the stars in his Heavenly home, at his daughter's home in Dodgeville on Sunday April 13 after a brief illness.

Chuck was born on July 8, 1925 in Dodgeville to Russell and Blanche (Fine) Williams. He married Ione Van Epps on February 20, 1954 in a candlelight ceremony. They lovingly enjoyed their life together for over 60 years.

He graduated from Dodgeville High School, class of 1944. Chuck farmed with his father until enlisting in the Air Force in 1947 and was stationed in Rapid City, SD and Wichita Falls, TX. Chuck was honorably discharged and returned to Dodgeville to run the family farm due to his dads illness.

Chuck also worked at Aides Supper Club, managing the bar for many years (where he made the best Old Fashions around!), also at Klusendorf's Chevy garage, a sub mail carrier for the USPS, Jewell LP gas in Cobb, then retiring from Iowa County Social Services with the fuel assistance program. He continued to be busy, working part time at Hi-Point, Dodge-Point Country Club and was a daily fixture at Super 8.

Chuck was so very proud to have been instrumental in the design and construction of the Veterans Memorial on the Dodgeville Courthouse lawn. He was very active in the Dodgeville VFW and American Legion, where he served as Commander, Chaplain and Sgt of Arms and represented at military funerals, cooking and serving breakfast each month at the Legion. He was also active in the 40/8.

Chuck was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was involved daily with all of their activities and school functions. He loved to garden and take care of his yard and flowers, was an avid golfer and bowler for years.

Chuck was a true gentleman, kind, caring and compassionate. He ensured all others needs were taken care of before his own. He is well known and has many Friends. He is very much loved by his Family and Friends.

Chuck enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers with his family and friends. He loved to dance and never missed going to "the Lake" in Mineral Point to dance to the Big Bands.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ione; his children, Leigh Williams of Dodgeville, Lynne (Steve) Williams-Behr, of Virginia Beach, VA and Brian Williams (Kim Griffiths), of Dodgeville; his grandchildren, Angela Garthwaite, Lance (Lori) Meudt, Kyle Meudt; his great-grandchildren, Emily and Maggie Garthwaite, Charlie and Reese Meudt; his loving and devoted sister, June (Ken) Jewell; his brother-in-law, Ken Potts; many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Russell and Blanche, Sisters, Margaret and Joyce, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Leila and Don Williams, Butch Van Epps, Ted and Lois Van Epps, Hank and Dee Ann Van Epps, Marguerite "Muggs" Potts and special friend, Leif Erickson.

Chuck loved his family dearly, he was so grateful to have the years with them. Till we meet again.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville, where Military Graveside Rites will be accorded by the Dodgeville Area Veterans. Rev. Steven Kottke will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
