Dodgeville - Charles W. (Bill) Singer, age 93, peacefully went home to the Lord on March 24, 2016. Bill, the son of Verda (Prideaux) and Charles Singer, was born in Dodgeville on March 15, 1923. Bill graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1941. Upon graduation he enlisted into the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Saipan during WWII. After service he attended Loras College in Dubuque, returning to Dodgeville to work with his father in the lead mines.

Bill was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary A. Moore, on June 5, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Together they founded Singer Lumber Company in 1953, on the site of the former Singer Mine. Bill was an avid golfer, bridge player, and huge sports enthusiast. Together with Mary he enjoyed decades of Badger football games at Camp Randall Stadium and countless rounds of golf at courses near and far. Bill and Mary were long time members of Dodge-Point Country Club and were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000.

Bill could make a new friend in an instant. He had a special gift of being able to light up a room. Bill had a personal charisma that was so very unique. When asked, "How are you, Bill?" he always responded, "Better now that I've see you!" Many will miss his happy, upbeat charm. Bill was a man of tremendous faith and a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church his entire life. He took communion to the ill, led the rosary, and was a Lector and Lay Eucharistic Minister for many years. His love of God, his kindness, and generosity were the backbone of a family that adored and respected him for his leadership. He was a true family patriarch.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Penny Singer and her children, Steven, Jeffrey, Wendy and Amanda; his daughter, Ann (Phil) Brown and their children, Matthew, Sean, Nicholas and Meghan; his son, Tim (Wendy) Singer and their children, Joseph and Jennifer. Bill is further survived by his in-laws, Margie (Jack) Flynn, Carol Gates, and Jan (Ken) Schwingle, ten great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2013; two infant sons; his parents, Verda and Charles; his brothers Keith and Simon; and his mother and father-in-law, Julia and Robert Moore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Dodgeville, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016, with Monsignor Daniel Ganshert officiating and Father Paul Ugo Arinze concelebrating. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Dodgeville Area Veterans. A celebration of Bill's life will take place at Dodge-Point Country Club following the service. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville, with a parish rosary at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St Joseph's Catholic Church or Upland Hills Health Foundation.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful, caring people at Upland Hills Health, St. Croix Hospice, and a special friend, "Dr. Dutch." In particular the family extends a special thanks to the current and past staff of Crestridge Assisted Living. Dad made too many friends to mention at his new home, each of which touched both his life and ours. The compassion and care demonstrated by the Crestridge staff will forever be remembered.

Bill will be missed by all so fortunate to have known him. His smile and charming ways can never be replaced. Though it is hard to say goodbye we find comfort knowing he is united in faith with God and his beloved wife, Mary.
