Barneveld – Brian Scott Monson, age 62, of Barneveld died unexpectedly on Monday, September 21, 2026 at his home.

Scott was born on April 28, 1964 in Madison, a son of the late Richard and Charlyne (Thompson) Monson. He graduated from Oregon High School in 1982 and went on to earn an Associate Degree at the Madison School of Engineering in Madison. He was an IT Specialist for Certco, Inc. for many years before moving to his current position at Miller & Sons Supermarkets in Verona and Mt. Horeb.

Scott was an avid sports fan (Packers, Badgers, Brewers) who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed time spent with friends and family, laughing and telling stories.

Scott was a collector all his life; starting early with old beer cans, butterflies from all over the world, stamps and other items before finding his true passion for music (classic rock, bluegrass, blues and other). Scott enjoyed playing the drums from his high school days up until current days. He loved working in his yard and living in his wonderful neighborhood in Barneveld.

Scott is survived by his brother Tim Monson (Jill Richter); his aunt Vicki Cardarella (Richard); nephew Kyle Monson; nieces Shae Monson, Bree Monson and Cate Monson; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Charlyne, his grandparents Arthur and Emma Thompson and Herbert and Vera Monson; many aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Scott’s life will be determined at a later date.

Memorials or donations can be made to the Barneveld-Brigham Volunteer Fire and EMS Departments.

The family would like to thank the many wonderful first responders in Barneveld, the Iowa County Sheriff’s Dept. and Med Flight, who heroically tried to save Scott’s life. Your efforts often go unappreciated and unseen by many, but are fully appreciated and impacted by those with whom you come into contact.
