Obituary

Dodgeville – Betty Lou Haefer, age 89, died on Saturday, June 25 2022 at Ingleside Manor in Mt. Horeb.

She was born on April 19, 1933 in Viroqua, a daughter of William and Ethel (Hoilien) Hoff. On December 8, 1951, she married Willie Elmer (Bill) Haefer in Coon Valley, WI.

Betty Lou and Bill and their five children lived in Reedsburg until 1959 when they moved to Cashton, where they owned and operated a bar and restaurant. In 1968, Betty, Bill, and family moved to Monroe where Betty worked in a restaurant and Bill owned and operated a gas station / car wash. Betty was famous for her pies and soup at the Waffel Shop restaurant. In May of 1974, Bill passed away.

In 1976, Betty Lou moved to Dodgeville, where she owned and operated the Red Room in Dodgeville and then Betty Lou's in Ridgeway . Betty retired in 2001.

Betty Lou was a member of Barneveld Lutheran Church, the WI Tavern League, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hats Club.

Betty and her daughters and friends enjoyed many shopping trips, short trips to Las Vegas, Nashville and other Country Western attractions. Betty enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

Betty Lou is survived by her daughters Sandy (Mike) Gray, Elaine Gutzmer, Joyce Stenulson and Carol (Jim) Homan; her grandchildren Douglas Sidie, Kerri (Eric) Brandenburg, Daniel (Becky) Schutte, Gus (Nancy) Schutte, Jackie Matteson, Billie Jo (Ted) Lewis, Shelley (Michael) Turner, Russ (McKenzie) Homan and Jason (Julie) Golackson; 26 great grandchildren; in-laws and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her daughter Beverly Haefer, her grandson Bradley Woodruff, her sisters Doris Williams and Gert Davidson, her brothers Luell, Howard, Virgil and Walter Hoff and in-laws.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. Private family burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
