Mineral Point – Barton Lee Swindall, age 92, formerly of Mineral Point, Wisconsin passed away at King Veterans' Home in King, Wisconsin on Friday, September 15, 2017.

He was born on July 28, 1925 in Danville, Illinois to Mathias Barton Swindall and Blanche Ethel [Culp] Swindall. He enlisted after high school graduation and served with the United States Marine Corps, 4th Marine Division (The Fighting Fourth), Marine Air Wing 24 (MAG-24) first in WWII, in both the Philippines Campaigns and later in China during the conflict between Nationalist and Communist Chinese forces. He later was called back into service during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Frances Lee Chandler of Danville, Illinois on June 24, 1950. She preceded him in death in August, 1990. He was a graduate of Danville High School, and the University of Illinois, graduating June 17, 1950.

Swindall was employed by several Chambers of Commerce, in the cities of Clinton, Illinois and Beloit, Wisconsin. He also served with the National Chamber of Commerce as District Manager for Illinois and Wisconsin from 1967 till 1971. In 1971, he resumed working at the city level, returning to Aurora, Illinois as Executive Director of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce where he was instrumental in the opening of Fox Valley Shopping Center. He later worked in the offices of the Kane County Comprehensive Employment and Training Act. He retired as an administrative officer for the Chicago Metropolitan Rail Authority (Metra). After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

He was active in public service roles, including the Iowa County Highway Commission and the Mineral Point Historical Society. He was also a member of VFW Post No. 7629 in Mineral Point and the American Legion Post 0170.

He is survived by sons Barton Lee, Jr. of Chicago; Lee Chandler, of Evanston, Illinois; Clayton Lee, of McHenry, Illinois; and Craig Lee (Doreen) of Naperville, as well as three grandchildren; Evan Swindall, of Golden Colorado, Lindsay Swindall of Madison, Wisconsin, Sarah Swindall of Naperville, Illinois and his former daughter-in-law, Caron Swindall of Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

A Celebration on Bart's life will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point. Military Veteran services will be held at 3:00 p.m. accorded by the Mineral Point American Legion Post 170 at the funeral home.
