Mineral Point - Avis Douglas, 101 years young, Mineral Point, passed away peacefully Friday, March 5, 2021.
Avis Eleanor (Evans) Douglas was born in Waldwick, Wisconsin on Valentine's Day February 14, 1920. She was the daughter of Roscoe and Margaret (Rickey) Evans. On September 21, 1940, she was united in marriage with Howard (Bud) Douglas. Avis and Bud started their life together in the Lafayette county area and eventually settled in Mineral Point around 1955.
Avis was a loving housewife and mother who also spent part of her working life as an Avon representative, Burgess Battery employee (Mineral Point) and Amphenol employee (Dodgeville). She definitely had a "green thumb" as her house was always filled with wonderful plants. She also enjoyed playing cards and board games, league bowling, taking trips, family genealogy and, of course, pets. There were always dogs at her home but stray cats, and even a chicken, would show up at her door and she had to be sure they were taken care of. Ask anyone who knew her and they will likely say she was the kindest and gentlest soul you could ever meet. Heaven is getting a good one.
Avis is survived by three children Sharon Ray, Arlen Douglas, Debra Douglas; sister Bonnie McKenna; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by husband Howard, son Bruce Douglas, daughter Barbara Ellery, her parents, four brothers, one sister, two grandsons and other extended family members.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Mineral Point at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Marilyn Brewer will officiate.
