Hollandale - Albertha (Bertha) M. Hughes age 100, of Hollandale, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, January 9th, 2023, at Upland Hills Health Center after a brief illness.

Bertha was born on November 13,1922 to Peter and Jane (Beckius) Weier. She married Robert (Bob) E. Hughes on February 24th, 1949, and together they had 5 children. She is survived by her children: Robert (Diann Sturdevant), Jane (Tom Bratton), David (Laurie Kainz), Donna Hughes and 9 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her daughter Karen Misener, grandsons Craig Hughes and Eric Misener, as well as her brothers and sisters (Fred, Frances, George, Paul, Raymond, and Bill Weier)

After retirement, Bertha and Bob traveled with their camper to Antique Steam Engine shows, where they met up with many friends they had made in their life. Bertha was a very loyal friend to many and enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collectibles. After her husband's death in 2003, she moved to Park Hollandale Apartments and lived there independently until the end, which is an amazing accomplishment.

Bertha celebrated her 100 Birthday in November and as usual had to be convinced that this special event was party worthy. It was a wonderful celebration of a life well lived and cause for reflection as to what it really means to live a century.

She was a loving mom and grandmother. She spent many hours doing word search books and even asked for a new dictionary so that she could look up the meaning of any unfamiliar words she found. She enjoyed listening to country music and Daniel O' Donnell. She always kept tabs on her neighbors as they did for her.

Bertha will be missed by her family, friends, special neighbors Pat Arendt and Christine Paddock, in addition to John and Amy Thronson of the Hollandale Grocery Store and her dear neighbor Mona Scott.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Hollandale. Fr. Michael Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 until 10:50 AM at the church. A luncheon will follow at the church.
