Mineral Point – Alan B. Gossett, age 68, of Mineral Point and formerly of Elkville, Illinois passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, due to complications following a stroke he had in May 2019.
Alan was born on September 2, 1958 in Herrin, to Julia S. (Freeman) and James Gossett Jr. He was united in marriage to Daniel Lloyd on February 27, 2015, in St. Charles, Illinois. They had been together since 2000, sharing more than 26 years together.
He is survived by his husband, Daniel Lloyd; son, Nicholas; brother, Rev. Tim (Myra) Gossett; nephew, Adam Gossett; niece, Melissa (Eric) Hines; four great nephews and two great nieces.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Lucy Gossett and Nellie McKnight.
Alan was a 1976 graduate of Elverado High School in Elkville, Illinois and earned a degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois.
Alan felt a calling to funeral service and worked as a funeral director at Searby Funeral Home as well as at funeral homes in the Chicagoland area. He later worked for Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago. His caring nature eventually led him to serve as a caregiver at a dementia care center, where he formed meaningful bonds with those entrusted to his care.
Alan enjoyed a special bond with his two basset hounds, Rosie and Benson. Forever his loyal sidekick, Benson joined Alan on his journey just two hours after his passing.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Mineral Point.
Alan also had a creative spirit and enjoyed pottery as a hobby. He took great pride in creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces and found joy in working with his hands.
Alan’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the kindness, friendship, and support shown by Barb and Frank Polizzi, Pastor Kate Kieckhafer, members of the Elkville and Mineral Point communities and Hope and Grace Lutheran Churches. Special thanks to the staff at Whitney Lodge and St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion during Alan’s illness.
