Muriel J. McCarville

Mineral Point – Muriel Jean McCarville, age 91, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 at her home in rural Mineral Point. Muriel was lovingly cared for by her three youngest daughters and numerous grandchildren, as her health faded with various illnesses in her last two years of life. She was born on Sept. 28, 1929 in Dodgeville, to Milo and Faye (Terrill) Ferrell. Muriel graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1947. She married LaVerne Thomas McCarville on Oct. 8, 1947, and together they farmed in the Waldwick area working side by side while raising their nine children. Muriel was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and an active member of the Council of Catholic Women. She had many interests, including being a voracious reader, and writing and sending cards to everyone she knew – her beautiful penmanship was admired by many. Muriel was a member of the Mineral Point Red Hat Group and Iowa County Homemakers Club. She enjoyed bowling in a Monday night league with friends during her early years. She was a birdwatcher and enjoyed her outside flowers and indoor plants. She loved to play cards, listen to live music, attend grandchildren’s activities and watching baseball. She was the most kind, caring and sweet lady you would ever meet. She had a beautiful smile, a heart of gold and was a ray of sunshine. Muriel is survived by her nine children, sons Dennis (Jane) and Michael (Barb) of Mineral Point, seven daughters, Christine (John) Berthelson of Las Vegas, Mary (Steve Mowbray) Venden of Morton, Ill., Sue (Denny) Hammond of Dodgeville, Muriel (Gary) Gruenenfelder of Blanchardville, Kathleen (Jeff) Hendrickson of Belleville, Cynthia (Denny) Nafzger of Mineral Point, and Amy Sarbacker of Mineral Point. She is further survived by one sister, Esther Reynolds of Fort Atkinson, her sister-in-law Idain (James) Carter of Blanchardville, her Norwegian daughter, Heidi Hardyman of Mineral Point, double cousin, Mabel (Gib) Gribble of Mineral Point, special daughter, Vicki McCarville of Dodgeville and special grandchild, Jessica Meyer of Juda. Muriel is preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne, an infant son, Patrick (1964), her sister, Maxine Tibbits, her parents, her in-laws, her daughter-in-law Joan McCarville, a grandson, Trevor Hendrickson and great granddaughter Kylie Pilling. A Public Visitation for Muriel will be held on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with a private family funeral to follow at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Hollandale. Due to CDC guidelines, Muriel’s children, Dennis, Christine, Mary, Sue, Muriel and Michael are not comfortable being in attendance at their Mother’s visitation but will be present at the Private Family Mass & Burial. If you would like to express your condolences to them, please contact them directly. Father Paul Eruva will officiate, assisted by Father Luke Syse. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery.
