James Leroy Sturz

Mineral Point - James Leroy Sturz, age 77, of Mineral Point, passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Jim was born in Eau Claire on October 1, 1936. He married Alvina Sturz on February 14, 1964. He was self employed most of his life working in wrecking, excavating, and truck parts going back and forth from Texas. They traveled all 50 states together. His favorite was taking the Amtrak to California. He enjoyed NASCAR, off road racing and the Packers. His passion was golfing and he had several hole-in-ones; he further enjoyed golf and coffee with his buddy Frances Burgess for the last 20 years. Jim is survived by his wife, Alvina, of Mineral Point; a daughter, Joelene (Dennis) Smith, of Osseo; a son, Randall (Carole) Sturz, of Eau Claire; 3 grandsons, Ryan, Daniel and Aron; his in-laws, John (Karen) Ray, of Jumel, CA, Billy Ray, of Bowling Green, KY, Clyde (Kitty) Ray of Mineral Point and Sharon Ray of Mineral Point. He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Homer and Ethel Ray, David Ray and Marcia Ray. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Homer and Lee Parkinson American Legion Club in Mineral Point.
