December 2, 1919 - March 4, 2021
Mineral Point - Frieda Marie Bulla Beckwith Whittington, age 101 of Mineral Point, WI. passed away peacefully in her home on March 4th, 2021 with her family at her side. Frieda had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She truly lived a rich life with the simple pleasures such as sharing her famous spaghetti and meatballs, homemade bread and apple pie. In her later years when travel became difficult, she continued to connect with others by writing cards and making phone calls to her large network of friends and family. Frieda will be remembered as a very caring, giving and sincere listener who will be missed. She was born on December 2, 1919 to Walter and Mary Jane Bulla in Johnson City, NY. She had a very active childhood with her father always moving north and south to find warm weather. She learned early how to adapt and make new friends. Frieda was a traveling musician to finance her college, along side her brothers Dan and Horace as the Bulla Trio, always comfortable with making new friends. She never knew a stranger.... Then she married Arnold Beckwith and was a “preacher’s wife” for 35 years. They had four children: Paul Beckwith (Leah), David Beckwith (Caroline), Ruth Schampier and Lois Hall (Jan). Due to her natural talent of solving financial problems, she worked as an accountant much of her adult life. She married Hugh Whittington in 1978 and enjoyed their union until 2007 when Hugh passed away. Although she lived as a widow for her final 12 years she was never alone. She has left behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will be forever touched by her legacy of love. Special thanks must be given to Lois and Jan Hall, who created a safe and loving home for Frieda. Don Elmer, a devoted and faithful friend for 20 years who helped make her life easier in so many ways. And Dr. Gordon Grieshaber who cared for Frieda for 20+ years as her trusted physician and friend. The Mineral Point family became her family and she felt blessed by them. Because of COVID, her celebration of life will be on Saturday, June 26th. A time for remembrance and sharing will be at the Soldiers Memorial Park in Pavilion #1, Mineral Point from 2-5 p.m. Frieda often supported the Community Connections Free Clinic in Dodgeville, 101 Fountain St. Dodgeville, WI 53533. Please send gifts of support to them in her name if desired.
