Zachary Ryan Gevelinger

Platteville / Dodgeville – Zachary Ryan Gevelinger, age 28, of Platteville, formerly of Dodgeville, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 5, 2017. Zachary was born July 24, 1988 in Madison, WI to Gregory R. and Julie E. (Lehner) Gevelinger. He graduated from Dodgeville High School in 2007 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. On October 22, 2016 he married the love of his life Olivia Hogan after seven years together. They lived in Platteville with their five dogs. They enjoyed traveling, quiet nights at home, spending time with their dogs and helping those in need. He always made sure to make her smile every day and remind her how very much loved she was. Zach enjoyed being politically active and fighting for equality for all. While studying at UW-Platteville he was president of the Students for Peace and Justice. After graduating he was active through speaking in college classes and joining marches for disenfranchised groups. He wanted to see the world become a better place and enjoyed working to make it so. Zach loved meeting new people and made friends where ever he went. He was known for always being willing to help others and for his wonderful sense of humor. It brought him great joy to make those around him smile. He was such a bright light in the world. He was the type of guy who would be glad to give the homeless a meal and sit awhile to listen to ones troubles. He never minded taking time out of his day to hear another's troubles. He worked tirelessly to help any and everyone around him. Zach has been working as a building maintenance worker at the University of Platteville. He previously took great pleasure working at 12 Baskets in Platteville. While attending UW- Platteville Zach had enjoyed working at Steve's Pizza. Zach is survived by his wife, Olivia Hogan, and their dogs, Hunter, Miss Daisy Dukes Wiggles, Mr. Maximus Wiggles, Lacey, and Miss Sally Mae Wiggles. As well as his parents, Greg and Julie Gevelinger, brother Nathan, sister Brehan, and grandmothers Eleanor Gevelinger and Lee Lehner, along with aunts, uncles, and cousins and many loving friends and commerades. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Raymond Gevelinger and Gordon Lehner. Grieve not nor speak of me with tears but laugh and talk of me as though I were beside you. I loved you so 'twas Heaven here with you. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Monsignor Daniel Ganshert will officiate. Inurnment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville and from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated.
