Maxine H. Tibbits

Mineral Point - Maxine Tibbits, 87, of Mineral Point passed away peacefully on September 30, 2020 with her loving family by her side. A Mineral Point Pointer from the very beginning, she was born on October 19, 1932, to Milo and Faye (Terrill) Ferrill. She married Leroy Tibbits on September 20, 1948. Leroy and Maxine were married twenty years before he passed. Maxine devoted her whole life to her family and the farm. She milked morning and night for 52 years and never missed. Her cows had special names and were like family. Her grandchildren would spend many Saturday nights with her watching Hee Haw and Carol Burnett, with her famous buttered popcorn. Maxine was not afraid of snakes, mice or bats. She loved to go coon hunting with Todd Schmitz. She was fearless when it came to anything in her way, even demolition cars! The whole community loved when Maxine would be around with her plate full of cookies. It was her joy to go to town and deliver her baked goods, especially to the bus drivers. At church/FFA auctions, many would bid high to get one of her plates of treats. She spent hours cooking and baking. When Rick and Jerry Tibbits and their families would come and help hay, she would be there helping Rick unload. She would have a big meal ready to feed everyone who was there to help. Maxine volunteered at many church functions. The rummage sale at the UCC church was one of her favorites, especially when Aunt Minnie Tibbits was there to help. You would also find her helping at the pasty sales. Maxine’s favorite day of the year was Christmas eve when her family came to her house and had oyster stew and everyone’s favorites. Games were played, there was always lots of laughter. We are thankful we were able to bring her back home to celebrate last year, the tradition will continue. Maxine’s family was truly the most important thing in her life. Maxine and Leroy had three children: Gary (Jan Jackson), Bob (Connie Schmitz), and Diane (Bruce Whitford). She was so proud of her children. She loved that they all lived in Mineral Point and Gary and Bob farmed on the family farm. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were truly blessed to call her Gram. She would be front row at every sporting or school event. She never missed a Grandparents Day or Christmas program at the Mineral Point elementary school. She would be there an hour before to save seats for her special crew. She picked up her grandchildren, great grandchildren and Boone and Logan Schmitz from the elementary school every day. She always a plate of cookies waiting for them. The highlight of many kids' day was walking up to the bus to receive a hug from “Grandma Max” as what she was called by many. Her “Mineral Point News,” brought so many together in our community. It gave her great joy to know everyone read it. She reported birthdays and told events that occurred with her family and friends. Maxine is survived by her two boys: Gary and Bob. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jason and Kandie Basting (Bella and Brooklyn), Traci Whitford (Jenna Okas and Chris Collins), Tricia and Mitch Bowers (Madison, McKenna and Elin), Tierney and Brian Keyes (Aidan and Brennan), Torrie and Ryan Hutchison (Justice), Todd and Jasmine Tibbits. Her sisters: Muriel McCarville and Esther Reynolds. Her sister-in-law, Neva Kendall. Her special friend, Helen Schmitz, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Maxine is preceded in heaven by her parents, Milo and Faye, her husband, Leroy, and her special daughter, Diane. Maxine was blessed to have special care from all the nurses and doctors at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab. The nurses became her family and truly gave her the best care. Her favorite day was Wednesday, bingo day. She loved winning beautiful bracelets for her girls. Maxine was truly special. She was selfless in every way. She touched all who knew her by her beautiful smile and her blue eyes. She was proud to be a Pointer. So many people became her family, she was a grandma to all. Tibbits road will never be the same without Maxine. Her late night phone calls to Muriel McCarville and Helen Schmitz will be missed.
