Delores Jacka Cushman

Mineral Point / Dodgeville – Delores “Dee” Jacka Cushman, aged 92, passed away peacefully in the early morning of May 22 at the Mineral Point Care Center, where she had been a resident since 2015. She was born on May 17, 1930 to Howard and Edith (Gribble) Jacka in Dodgeville. Dee attended Mineral Point public schools and developed a lifelong love of local history. After taking classes in Minneapolis and Dubuque, she returned to Mineral Point and worked for the telephone company. She married Robert Cushman in April 1952 in Angola, Indiana, and the couple had four children between 1953 and 1971. After Robert’s discharge from the Air Force the family lived in Mineral Point and later moved to Madison in 1959. Despite moving to Florida in 1965 and to Duluth, Minnesota, in 1971, Dee remained connected to Mineral Point through her family and many friends and frequently returned to the city with her children. The family relocated to Anoka, Minnesota in 1974 and to Solon Springs, Wisconsin, in 1992. She doted on her grandchildren and often had them stay with her during the summer, when she would share her love of gardening, needlepoint, and her dogs. In 1998 Dee and Bob returned to Iowa County, residing in Dodgeville. She spent many happy hours with her friends at regular Friday morning gatherings and worked for Land’s End. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004. Dee loved every corner of Iowa County and enjoyed driving along back roads to admire the scenery. She knew the history of every building and every family in Mineral Point. Dee was a devoted fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and Milwaukee Brewers and spent many hours watching sports of all kinds. Delores is survived by her daughters Christine and Diane (Tom) and her sons David (Darla) and Jason (Darcey), seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery in Mineral Point. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR YOUR DURATION INSIDE THE FUNERAL HOME.
