Dodgeville - Gladys A. Venden, age 85, of Dodgeville, died peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Bloomfield Manor in Dodgeville. She was born on September 15, 1924 in Madison, the daughter of Earl and Pearl (Simons) Hughes. She graduated from Arena High School.
On February 17, 1949, she married Norman Venden in Mt. Horeb. They were dairy farmers in Ridgeway and Barneveld for many years before moving to Dodgeville. Gladys then worked for Walnut Hollow for several years.
Gladys enjoyed Polka Fests and dances with her friends, gardening and fishing with Norman. She was a long time member of the Larsenville and Wakefield Homemaker’s Club. She was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church in which she was a member of the Rachel Circle.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Norman; her son, Roger (Lisa) Venden, of Dodgeville; her grandsons, Josh Venden, of Madison and Jake (Dawn) Venden, of Dodgeville; her step-grandson, Beau Thoreson, of Madison; her great grandson, Nicholas Venden; and her sister, Doris Raisbeck, of Mt. Horeb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Charles and Owen, her sister, Claris and her son, Robert.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Dodgeville. Rev. Steven Kottke will officiate. Private family inurnment will be held in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church.
