Sherman, Olive L.
September 2, 1914 - December 23, 2011

Mineral Point - Olive Loretta Sherman, age 97, of Mineral Point passed away on December 23, 2011 at the Mineral Point Care Center. Olive was born the 1st of four children to John E. and Clara (Sleep) Harris on September 2, 1914 in Parker, South Dakota. The family returned to Wisconsin in 1919. Olive attended rural schools and Mineral Point High School. She was united in marriage to Lloyd A. Gratz on January 18, 1933. They farmed in the Yellowstone & Waldwick areas, where she was a member of the Waldwick Homemakers. Olive moved to Madison in 1953 and was employed at UW and Veterans Hospitals; Wolff, Kubly & Hirsig and American Family Insurance. On May 25, 1963 she married Alf T. Sherman. They were active members of the Bashford Methodist Church, Senior Citizens and the Moose Club. She enjoyed many years of dancing, bowling, golfing, sewing, making quilts for her great-grandchildren and she loved her beautiful flowers. She had her special pets, Tina, Tiger, & Smokey.

Olive is survived by her three daughters: Marian E. Schmitz of Mineral Point, Carolyn J. (Don) Meuer of Dodgeville, and Janet K. (Dick) Hyland of Belleville and a step-son David Sherman of Chicago, IL; twelve Grandchildren, twenty-nine great- grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and three step-great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alf, brothers: Richard and Douglas; sister Geraldine Vitense-Arneson, son-in-law Kenneth W. Schmitz and grandson Jeffery J. Hyland.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
