Dodgeville - Marian J. Raess, age 75, of Dodgeville, died on Friday, July 11, 2008 at Upland Hills Nursing & Rehab Center in Dodgeville. She was born on May 29, 1933 in Cobb, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Alfred and Laura (Richter) Nagel. She graduated from Cobb High School and on May 9, 1953, she married Paul Raess at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Madison. Marian served the public in various roles including Soil Conservation Service, Production Credit Association, Veterans Service Administration, the County Clerk’s office, the Dodgeville City Council and retired from her office of Iowa County Register of Deeds after 45 years of public service. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Dodgeville Kiwanis Club and the Dodge Point Red Hatters. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great granddaughter.
Marian is survived by her husband of 55 years, Paul Raess; her daughters, Debra (Terry) Slaney and Diana (Mark) Klosterman, both of Dodgeville; her sons, David (Kris) Raess and Mark Raess, both of Dodgeville; her grandchildren, Shawn, Joshua and Jesse Slaney, Ryan and Megan Raess, Morgan (Brian Leix) Rolli, McKenzy Rolli and Lucas Klosterman; her great granddaughter, Baylee Leix; her brothers, Alfred Nagel, of Montello, James Nagel, of Richland, Missouri, Robert (Donna) Nagel, of Lynn Haven, FL; her sisters-in-law, Grace Raess, of Darlington, Eleanor Janssen, of Dodgeville and Mary Alice (George) Jackson, of Wamic, Oregon; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, John P. Raess, on July 11, 2007, her brother, Wendell Nagel, her sister-in-law, Shella Nagel, her brothers-in-law, John C. Raess, Robert P. Raess and Robert Janssen.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marian Raess will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Father Henry Kalscheuer will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s School Trust Fund.
