Dodgeville - William G. Pitt, age 84, of Dodgeville, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his home. He was born on July 7, 1925 in Arena, Wisconsin, a son of the late Thomas and Mary Louise (Howes) Pitt. He grew up in Arena and on June 22, 1948, he married Mary Richards, of Dodgeville, at the Primative Methodist Church in Ridgeway. He enjoyed working as a truck driver for the Iowa County Highway Department for over 45 years and referred to his co-workers affectionately as the “County Boys”. He served on the Dodgeville City Council for a number of years. Bill had a special interest in Model A Ford cars and participated in many local parades. He generously plowed gardens in the summer for his friends. He had a good sense of humor and always had a friendly smile.
Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; his sisters, Dora (Earl) Bennett, of Arena and Doris McAusland, of Madison; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Tommie, in 1957, his parents, his sisters, Ellen Weaver, Laura Meyer, and Mildred Meyer, and his brother, Vernon Pitt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. Rev. Rom A. Pegram will officiate. Burial will be held in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the Gorgen-McGinley & Ayers Funeral Home in Dodgeville.
